Veg-Friendly Restaurants in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area
Because it can be difficult locating a restaurant that offers more than one edible dish, we have compiled a list of what we consider veggie-friendly eating establishments. Some are based on our own personal experience and others are listed because of their advertised menus. Where possible we have included their website, so you can see for yourself what they have to offer. If the restaurant has no website of its own but has been written up on another site, we have included an information link. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and if you have a recommendation we would appreciate hearing from you.

St.
Louis is hardly a vegetarian's dream location. While city leaders like to
tout it as having some of the country's best restaurants, that is a distinction
we vegetarians would dispute. Situated in the meat-and-potatoes Midwest,
most St. Louisans prefer the meat over the potatoes. But, things have
improved, if not quite as much as we would like. It is no longer a given
that the only edible item on a menu will be the salad. There are missed
opportunities, however, in a city filled with Italian heritage. Instead of
focusing on the abundance of creative vegetable pasta possibilities, most
Italian restaurants in St. Louis insist on heavy sauces, cheese-smothered
everything, and the ever-present veal.
